BC&C lawyers recognised for pro bono efforts

Hong Kong, 4 January 2021: Boase Cohen & Collins’ commitment to helping wider society has been underscored with seven awards in the Law Society of Hong Kong’s 2020 Pro Bono and Community Work Recognition Programme.

Senior Partner Colin Cohen, Partners Alex Liu and Lisa Wong and co-founder Melville Boase each received Gold Awards for completing more than 100 hours of pro bono or community work over the course of 12 months. Partners Usha Casewell and Fiona Chan were given Silver and Bronze Awards respectively while BC&C collected a Gold Award in the category for law firms.

Colin commented: “The ethos of giving back to the community is one which runs through our firm and lawyers of all levels are encouraged to undertake pro bono work. We believe access to justice is not just a slogan, it is a basic right to which everyone is entitled.

“In total, our legal team provided more than 720 hours of pro bono service in the year to a range of deserving individuals and organisations. I’m proud of my colleagues’ efforts, particularly given the challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic.”

Due to the ongoing presence of Covid-19, the award ceremony was held online with contributions from Chief Justice Geoffrey Ma, Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng and Law Society President Melissa Pang.
