Grassroots football alive and kicking

Hong Kong, 24 July 2023: BC&C is to maintain its proud tradition of supporting grassroots football as team manager Danny Harris and his staff embark on their biggest challenge yet.

Danny, assisted by Paul Taylor, Danny Hill and Sam Lilburn, has been put in charge of the first team at Sporting Club Thamesmead FC, who play in the First Division of England’s highly competitive Southern Counties East Football League (SCEFL).

It will be the eighth season in a row BC&C has supported the coaching group as they develop young players on their journey to the upper levels of the English football pyramid. Beginning at Glebe FC in 2016, Danny and his colleagues have coached with great success at Bromley FC, VCD Athletic and last season at Lordswood FC, where their U23s team finished a creditable fourth in the SCEFL Development Division.

“We remain eternally grateful to Colin Cohen and everyone at Boase Cohen & Collins for their constant generosity and spirit. A significant number of our players down the years have come from disadvantaged backgrounds and finding success on the football pitch gives them an outlet for their energy and the confidence to build their lives. This would not be possible without the support of BC&C,” says Danny.

“Sporting Club Thamesmead will be our biggest project yet. Apart from the first team, we will oversee the club’s development structure from U13s upwards which will allow us to harness potential and hopefully continue to have a positive effect on young people’s lives.”

Some of Danny’s previous players have gone on to shine on a bigger stage. Two years ago, teenager Jayden Smith signed his first professional contract with Southampton FC while last year Bobby Dunn joined Sheffield Wednesday.

Says Colin, Senior Partner at BC&C and a keen amateur referee: “Just like our pro bono legal work in Hong Kong, where we stand at the coalface, so to speak, and assist those in need, Danny and his colleagues work at the grassroots level, changing lives and fostering personal development. We have always supported community initiatives, whether in Hong Kong or elsewhere, and we wish Thamesmead all the best for the coming football season.”

39+ years of legal experience is just a click away.
