The legal fallout from workplace accidents

Hong Kong, 19 December 2023: Employers’ obligations and the rights of employees were discussed in detail when our Partner Jeffrey Chan and Consultant Teresa Leung gave a presentation on work-related accidents to a group of engineering professionals.

The BC&C duo highlighted key provisions of the Employees’ Compensation Ordinance (Cap 282) with a focus on what is expected of employers, what a worker should do in the event of injury, and levels of compensation available. They also examined issues around medical expenses and sick leave.

The talk was given to members of the Hong Kong Professional Hoisting Engineering Association, an organisation formed by firms involved in various industries such as crane engineering, machine engineering, construction and logistics.

Says Jeffrey, head of BC&C’s expanding Insurance and Personal Injury team: “There have been several high-profile workplace incidents in recent months which have focused attention on such topics as accident insurance, site safety and injury compensation. With our considerable knowledge of personal injury cases, we understand the importance of all parties knowing their rights and obligations.”

BC&C is highly experienced in the fields of insurance law and personal injury litigation, acting as panel solicitors for major insurance companies and also assisting private and legally aided clients.
